Dynamic light scattering (DLS) is a well established, non-invasive technique for measuring size and size distribution of molecules and nano-materials in the 0.3 – 1000nm size range. Dynamic light scattering is also known as photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS) and sometimes quasi-elastic light scattering (QELS). The most common application for dynamic light scattering is to measure the size of molecules or particles which are dissolved or dispersed in some kind of liquid medium. To make a dynamic light scattering measurement, a focused laser light beam is used to illuminate the liquid sample and the time dependent, scattered light intensity fluctuations are recorded and correlated. The average particle size present in the sample is directly related to the rate of change of scattered light intensity and is calculated using the Stokes-Einstein relationship.

5µl disposable BladeCell™
To complement the W130i, Avid Nano have created a unique, low volume, disposable dynamic light scattering measurement cuvette. The W130i is supplied with BladeCells as standard, giving the user immediate access to a totally new DLS technology.
Standard fluorescence cuvette compatibility and 2µl minimum sample volume
Standard fluorescence cuvette compatibility makes the W130i adaptable and flexible in operation. Fits standard 12.5mm square section 8.5mm centre height cuvettes of 12µl, 45µl and larger. Also compatible with 8µl flow through cuvettes (available by request).
Now for 2013, we have improved the W130i further, making it possible to collect the highest quality dynamic light scattering data from just 2µl of sample. Unlike our main competitors, we have achieved this without resorting to specially designed (sole source) quartz cuvettes, but by simply focusing the measurement volume close to the bottom of a standard cuvette.
